The new simplified 50 and 100 mile routes will be clearly marked with painted Dan Henry markings as well as small white signs. The trail ride will have signs to guide you and we will have a few civilian patrols posted at key locations so we are hoping most riders will not need a map.

Trail Map – Key Intersections

For those riding the trail to Middlebury and/or Shipshewana, you will simply follow the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail with a few directions at the beginning and end. If you are new to the area, you have two choices.  “No crushed limestone” or “Some crushed limestone”.

No crushed limestone

The first part (about 2 miles) of the Nature Trail has hard-packed crushed limestone.  Most people who bike the trail don’t mind, but some people would rather not ride on crushed limestone, ever.  If you want no crushed limestone,

  1. Head straight out Blackport road at Gate 1
  2. Take a right on E Lincoln Avenue (SR 4) and ride for 1 mile.
  3. Take a left on CR 127 and ride for 1.5 miles until you meet up with the trail where it is paved.
  4. Turn right onto the trail towards Middlebury.  Follow the in steps below starting with step 5.

Some crushed limestone

  1. Turn left out of the fairgrounds and ride down the sidewalk/path
  2. Carefully cross over E Monroe Street and continue left down the path to Logan Street
  3. Turn right onto Logan and ride 0.8 of a mile until you get to E Lincoln Avenue/IN 4
  4. Turn right on E Lincoln Avenue, then an almost immediate right onto the sidewalk that connects with and becomes the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail.
  5. When you get to Middlebury, look for our signs for the MiddleburySAG.  We will be at Heritage park.
  6. After the Middlebury SAG,
    1. Headed back to Goshen
      1. Follow the trail and signs toward Goshen.
      2. When you get back to Abshire park, cross over E Lincoln Avenue and continue on the trail.
      3. You will come back to E Lincoln Avenue.  This part is a little awkward.
      4. Turn left on E Lincoln Avenue, then immediately turn left onto Logan Street.
      5. Follow Logan for 0.8 of a mile.
      6. Turn Left onto the sidewalk/path at E Monroe Street for 0.3 of a mile.
      7. Carefully go across E Monroe Street, turn left and ride up the sidewalk/path to Gate 2.
      8. Turn left onto Locust Street and ride 0.2 of a mile.
      9. Turn right.  Congratulations you made it! Have some pie and ice cream!
    2. Headed to Shipshewana, follow the signs towards Shipshewana.
      1. At the end of the trail, turn right onto N CR 850 W and ride for 0.1 of a mile.
      2. Turn left onto W Middlebury Street and ride 0.7 of a mile.
      3. Turn right onto Morton St
      4. Go straight into the parking lot of the Shipshewana Flea Market.  You should see signs to the SAG
  1. After the Shipshewana SAG stop, you are headed to the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail to go back to Goshen. Go back out to S Van Buren Street
  2. Turn right onto S Van Buren Street and ride for 0.1 of a mile in the buggy lane.
  3. Turn right onto Davis Street.
  4. Turn left onto Morton Street.
  5. Turn left onto W Middlebury Street and ride 0.7 of a mile.
  6. Turn right onto N CR 850 W and ride for 0.1 of a mile.
  7. Turn left onto the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail and ride to Goshen.
    1. If you do not want to ride on crushed limestone for the last part of the trail read the **No crushed limestone instructions below.
  8. Take care crossing roads where the trail crosses over or travels along with roads.
  9. When you get back to Abshire park, cross over E Lincoln Avenue and continue on the trail.
  10. You will come back to E Lincoln Avenue.  This part is a little awkward.
  11. Turn left on E Lincoln Avenue, then immediately turn left onto Logan Street.
  12. Follow Logan for 0.8 of a mile.
  13. Turn Left onto the sidewalk/path at E Monroe Street for 0.3 of a mile.
  14. Carefully go across E Monroe Street, turn left and ride up the sidewalk/path to Gate 2.
  15. Turn left onto Locust Street and ride 0.2 of a mile.
  16. Turn right.  Congratulations you made it! Have some pie and ice cream!

**No crushed limestone – If you do not want to ride on crushed limestone for the last part of the trail, you will ride the trail for 14 miles.

  1. Turn left onto CR 127 where the trail crosses the road and ride for 1.5 miles.
  2. Turn right onto E Lincoln Avenue and ride for 1 mile
  3. Turn left onto Blackport road and ride 0.7 miles.
  4. Carefully go across E Monroe Street, turn left and ride up the sidewalk/path to Gate 2.
  5. Turn left onto Locust Street and ride 0.2 of a mile.

50 MILE RIDERS

  1. You will take a right out of the fairgrounds on E Monroe/CR 34.  At around 8 miles the road name changes to W 400 S, but you continue straight.
  2. You’ll ride another 3 miles where you’ll have a “tricky” turn (at mile 11). You stay on W 400 S and the “curve” road sign guides you to bear left, but would be easy to continue straight if you are in deep conversation.  The large Honeyville Feed Supply is near that intersection.
  3. 3.3 miles past Honeyville Feed Supply you will take a left onto 600 W towards Emma, IN.
  4. You’ll ride 3.1 miles north, past Emma Lake, through Emma, past Westview High School until you get to W 100 S.
  5. Turn right on W 100 S and ride 3.5 miles to an Amish school where you will find your first SAG at the corner of W 100 S and S 250 W.  You cannot miss it.
  6. When you finish at the SAG, turn left to the intersection beside the school and turn left onto S 250 W.
  7. Ride 1 mile to SR 20.  This is a busy road.  A Lagrange sheriff deputy will be there to help larger groups cross, but the deputy is more of a presence than a traffic controller.  You need to stop and wait for traffic before you cross. Hopefully it won’t be too busy on Saturday.
  8. After safely crossing, ride a little over 4 miles to W 450 N.  It is a T intersection.  Turn left and ride about 0.8 of a mile where it turns into W 400 N.
  9. Ride about a mile and turn left onto N 400 W.  (Yes, that’s not a typo.  We didn’t name the roads.)
  10. You will continue straight, but after about 1/4 mile the road changes names again to N 425 W where the road curves.
  11. Still riding “straight” the road becomes W 300 N at a curve.
  12. Ride another 0.9 of a mile and turn left onto N 550 W.  This road changes name in 1/4 mile to W 275 N.  Continue for 1.3 miles.
  13. At the T turn left onto N 675 W.  Ride 0.2 of a mile.
  14. Turn right onto W 250 N and ride this 1.1 miles into Shipshewana.
  15. Turn left onto Morton Street.
  16. Go straight into the parking lot of the Shipshewana Flea Market.  You should see signs to the SAG

100 MILE RIDERS

The first 5 directions are the same as the 50 mile route as you both ride to the Amish school SAG.

  1. You will take a right out of the fairgrounds on E Monroe/CR 34.  At around 8 miles the road name changes to W 400 S, but you continue straight.

  8. Across SR 20 the road name changes to N 450 E, but you only ride another 0.3 of a mile before you turn right onto E 025 N and ride for 3.8 miles.
  9. Turn left onto E 300 N and ride for 5.1 miles
  10. Turn right onto N 100 E and ride for 2 miles.  You will cross over 120 which can be busy.
  11. Turn left onto E 600 N and ride for 0.7 miles
  12. Turn left onto 4th Street and ride 1/4 mile to the Howe SAG at Lima Brighton School.
  13. When you are done with your SAG stop, take a right to go back up to E 600 N
  14. Turn left onto E 600 N and ride for 1.3 miles. Take care crossing SR 9
  15. Turn left onto N 100 W and ride for 0.4 miles
  16. Turn right onto W 600 N and ride 2.1 miles were the name becomes W 650 N.  You are continuing straight for another 1.7 miles before the name changes again to W 700 N and ride another 2.1 miles.
  17. Turn right onto N 675 W for 0.5 miles.
  18. Turn left onto W 750 N where the road name doesn’t change for the entire 5.2 miles.
  19. Turn left onto E County Line Road for 0.5 miles just past Stone Lake.
  20. Turn right onto CR 4 for 3.5 miles.
  21. Turn right onto CR 35 and ride 0.2 miles going under the toll road.
  22. Turn left onto CR 4 and ride 1.8 miles
  23. Turn left onto CR 131 and ride 1.5 miles into Bonneyville Mill Park.  There is a water fountain and bathrooms on the south side of the building to your left if you need a break, but no official SAG.
  24. If you stopped, take a left on CR 131 to ride past the parking lot, then take a left, still riding beside the parking lot, up the hill, through a sharp right turn to the stop sign. This is about 0.4 of a mile from the building.
  25. Turn left on CR 8 for 2.3 miles.
  26. Turn left on CR 10 and in 3.3 miles the name changes to W 450 N, but keep going straight for another 2 miles where the road comes to a T.
  27. Turn right, then left to continue on W 450 N for 6 miles.
  28. Turn right onto N 400 W and ride 0.5 miles to where there is an intersection.  You’ll continue straight on N 400 W for another 0.4 of a mile where the road changes names to N 425 W at a curve.
  29. Still riding “straight” the road becomes W 300 N at a curve.
  30. Ride another 0.9 of a mile and turn left onto N 550 W.  This road changes name in 1/4 mile to W 275 N.  Continue for 1.3 miles.
